The new FuelEU Maritime regulation, set to begin in 2025, aims to reduce  from maritime transport. Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) has proactively developed comprehensive measures and digital tools to ensure compliance with these complex requirements.

By August 2024, BSM had already submitted Monitoring Plans for all vessels under the regulation to authorized verifiers, ensuring readiness from the start. Throughout the year, BSM has focused on supporting clients to manage the new regulations effectively and avoid non-compliance.

BSM's integrated IT systems and procedures ensure accurate monitoring, recording, correction, and reporting of all relevant voyage and emission data. Anil Jacob, Head of Fleet Performance, highlights that these systems are designed to handle the intricate details of FuelEU Maritime compliance.

Key tools developed by BSM include the FuelEU Dashboard and FuelEU Simulator, both integrated into their PAL ship management software. The Dashboard calculates anticipated GHG intensity, compliance balance, and expected penalties based on reported fuel data. This helps in assessing penalties from 2025 to 2050.

The FuelEU Simulator allows users to simulate the effects of modifications on vessels, providing insights on minimizing compliance costs. It can simulate the impact of using shore power or biofuels, offering transparency across various options.

Additionally, BSM offers expert guidance on suitable fuels, compliance technologies, and flexible options like pooling to reduce GHG intensity penalties. The system can monitor and manage the compliance status of vessel pools, providing continuous insights and tracking.

Anil Jacob emphasizes that BSM's approach goes beyond compliance management, aiming to add real value by offering a transparent view of each ship and vessel-specific solutions. This comprehensive approach ensures clients can make well-informed decisions with all aspects and options fully considered.
